Downloads – Program Files
There are several options for getting the program files.
- If you have already registered, you can download either one of the complete
setup packages from the section A below,
or if you have a slow connection, get the actual program files first
by downloading the bare essentials package from the section
B, and get the additional themes, tile
sets and the tutorial at a later
stage.
NOTE TO CD-ROM OWNERS: If you have
purchased the game on a CD-ROM and look
for updates, please DO NOT DOWNLOAD the setup packages from this page.
Instead, please UPDATE your current version by downloading the latest
version from the Updates download page.
- If you do NOT have a version 2.x license yet, the only option is to
download the version 2.01 setup package from the
section C below.
The same package is used for all supported Windows operating system
versions (Windows 95/98/Me, Windows NT 4.0, Windows 2000, Windows XP and
Windows Vista).
Note: The setup packages use
Microsoft Windows Installer technology (MSI 2.0). If you use Windows NT
4.0, you need to have service pack 6 installed in order to be able to use
these setup packages.
Note to Windows Vista users:
The latest version of Four Winds can display context help even if
WinHlp32.exe is not installed, but since the WinHelp module supports
rich formatting, it is recommended that Windows Vista users download
WinHlp32.exe for Windows Vista from Microsoft's site (search the
download address with Internet search engine by using "WinHlp32.exe for
Windows Vista" as a keyword).

you can download a test version from the section C.
IMPORTANT: Please make sure that
your ISP or spam mail filter does not block e-mail from lagarto.fi or
kolumbus.fi addresses since
support e-mail normally proceeds from these domain names (and not
necessarily from 4windsmj.com). E.g., AOL may use a setting
according to which e-mail is allowed ONLY from AOL members: if you use
this option, we cannot send you e-mail. If you do not receive e-mail you
have been asking, please check your e-mail settings (and more
specifically, if our mail is in your spam mail box).

Alternative Download Sites (dozens of mirror sites around the
world):
Note: If you wish to use the multiplayer features, you need
Microsoft DirectX v. 6.0 or later. DirectX is not included in the online setup
packages but you can download the latest version
from Microsoft's
Download Center. Select "DirectX" from the list of
products , specify your operating system, and click Find It.
Note to users who do not have Microsoft Internet Explorer installed
on their system: the game includes a comprehensive documentation which is
based on Microsoft’s HTML Help – a system that requires that version
4.0 or later of Microsoft Internet Explorer is installed.
If you do have Microsoft Internet Explorer installed, but you are
uncertain of the version, you can check that by choosing About Internet
Explorer on the Help menu of your browser. If you have a version older
than 4.0, you can download the latest browser from Microsoft’s
site.
If you do not have Microsoft Internet Explorer installed (and do not
bother to download it, either), you can download our alternative HTML
documentation that is based on Java applet and works with any browser that
supports Java and .CSS style sheets (e.g., Netscape 6.2).
